River Sil Boat Trip
| It was about 4 p.m. and I was standing in the reception area of the Parador de Monforte, when I picked up a brochure on boat trips on the River Sil. Sara, the receptionist told me that it was nice to go in the evening, and although it was too late to book a ticket if I took a taxi down to Doade I would probably get on. And so that's what I did. I returned to my room to get a light jacket, and jumped into a taxi for Doade. Actually it was quite a way, and the road goes around many hairpin bends on the road high above the River Sil, gradually dropping down to the river level. The taxi ride was 20 euros; the 2-hour boat trip is 9 euros for an adult, reduced to 5 euros for over 65 year olds. A bargain! |

| After the 2-hour boat trip had finished I had a slight problem..... how to get a taxi back to Monforte de Lemos. I tried in the office at the boat club but the man shrugged his shoulders indicating that he could not get a taxi on his mobile..... perhaps there was no signal so low down in the Sil gorge. Fortunately two people from Madrid, Xavier & Magdalene, realized my predicament and offered to give me a lift back. So kind of them. |
